Singapore, 13 Apr 2026 (ONA) — The US dollar rose to its highest level in a week during early Asian trading today, recording gains against most major currencies.
The increase comes amid developments in the Middle East, including the breakdown of talks between the United States and Iran and preparations by the US Navy to impose a blockade on Iranian ports.
The US dollar index, which measures the currency against a basket of six major currencies, rose by up to 0.5 percent to 99.187, its highest level since 7 April 2026.
The euro declined by 0.5 percent to $1.1667, while the British pound fell by 0.6 percent to $1.3383. The Australian dollar dropped by 0.8 percent to $0.7014, and the New Zealand dollar decreased by 0.7 percent to $0.5798.
