Dollar Opens 2026 on Firm Footing in Asian Trading

Tokyo: The US dollar opened the first full trading week of the new year on a stronger footing, reaching a three-and-a-half-week high against the euro and posting gains against both the British pound and the Japanese yen.

The dollar edged up 0.1 percent to $1.1705 per euro, after earlier touching $1.170025, its highest level since 11 December 2025.

Against the British pound, the dollar rose 0.1 percent to 1.34495, while it also gained 0.1 percent against the Japanese yen, trading at 156.90 yen.
