Oman Opens 380km Road Projects in Al Mazyouna and Maqshin

380km of New Roads Enhance Transport Network in Dhofar Governorate

Al Mazyouna:  The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology today opened the “Harweeb-Maytan” road in the Wilayat of Al Mazyouna and the asphalt road network in the Wilayat of Maqshin in Dhofar Governorate, with a combined length of about 380 kilometres.

His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, said the governorate is witnessing significant momentum in infrastructure development, noting that road projects constitute a key pillar of comprehensive development efforts.

He affirmed the continuation of efforts to strengthen and develop the road network across the governorate, adding that the two projects represent a qualitative addition to Dhofar’s road infrastructure and support the governorate’s comprehensive development strategy.

His Highness said the projects contribute to raising the efficiency of infrastructure and transport networks and support the requirements of comprehensive and sustainable development.

Engineer Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said the Ministry is implementing plans to strengthen and develop Oman’s road infrastructure in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

He explained that the plans focus on establishing and developing a modern road network in accordance with best practices and standards, contributing to connectivity between wilayats and governorates, improving traffic movement and supporting economic, social and tourism development.

Harweeb–Maytan Road

Al Maawali said the “Harweeb-Maytan” road represents an important transport axis in Dhofar Governorate, linking the centre of Al Mazyouna with its districts and enhancing its connectivity with the land port and free zone in Al Mazunah, extending to the land crossing with the Republic of Yemen.

He noted that the road strengthens Al Mazyona’s role as a hub for commercial and logistical activity, facilitates the movement of goods, stimulates economic and commercial activity and supports investment, tourism and related services.

The project is also expected to support urban expansion and development in various areas of the wilayat, improve road-related services, facilitate the movement of people and economic activities, enhance traffic safety and strengthen connectivity between population centres and service and economic centres.

The “Harweeb-Meten” project includes the construction and paving of 210 kilometres of roads comprising the 45-kilometre Harweeb-Andat road, the 26-kilometre Andat-Tousnat road, the 39-kilometre Tousnat-Al Mazunah road, the 90-kilometre Al Mazunah-Meten road and the 10-kilometre Andat-Habrout road.

Maqshin Asphalt Road Network

The Minister said the asphalt road network project in Maqshin aims to strengthen connectivity between the wilayat’s centre and its districts and surrounding areas.

The project contributes to improving the movement of people and goods, enhancing access to services and facilities and supporting administrative and developmental integration across the wilayat.

He added that the project strengthens the foundations of urban and economic development by improving transport links between population centres and production areas, supporting the utilisation of Maqshin’s tourism and economic assets and contributing to balanced and sustainable development.

The Muqshin asphalt network extends for 170 kilometres, starting from the wilayat’s centre and passing through Mandar Al-Dhibyan, Al-Mashash, Marsudd, Al-Manader and Shajaj, reaching Marsudd and strengthening connections between the wilayat’s centre and its affiliated districts and areas.
