    • 48 dead, nearly 1 million affected by storm Nalgae in Philippines

    Manila: Forty-eight people pronounced dead and nearly 1 million were affected by floods and landslides caused by tropical storm Nalgae in the Philippines, the national disaster agency said today.

    Twenty-two people were still missing, while 40 were injured, the agency said.

    Most of the dead and missing are from the southern Maguindanao province, where hundreds of houses were buried in the landslides.

    Nalgae, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometres per hour (km/h) and gusts of up to 105 km/h, was moving west-south-west at 20 km/h, according to the weather bureau.

    It was expected to leave the Philippines tomorrow Monday and move towards southern China.
