Oman Start Arab Cup Campaign with Narrow Loss to Saudi Arabia
Doha: Oman’s national football team put on a strong performance but fell 2–1 to Saudi Arabia in their opening Group B match of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, held this evening at Education City Stadium.
After a goalless first half, the second period witnessed heightened intensity from both sides. Saudi Arabia opened the scoring in the 55th minute when Feras Al Brikan met a precise cross with a powerful header into the Omani net.
Oman, led by coach Carlos Queiroz, responded with determination and succeeded in equalising in the 70th minute through a well-executed finish by Ghanim Al Habsi.
However, the Saudi team regained the lead just seven minutes later through Saleh Al Shehri. The goal proved decisive, as Oman pushed forward relentlessly in search of an equaliser but were unable to convert their chances before the final whistle.
In the other Group B fixture held earlier at Khalifa International Stadium, Morocco defeated Comoros 3–1.
