Amman: The Andalusian Cultural Studies Association was officially launched today in the Jordanian capital, Amman, during a ceremony held at the National Library of Jordan.
The establishment of the association aims to open broad horizons for academic research and critical studies focusing on the history of Al Andalus, including its arts, architecture, literature, and intellectual legacy. It reflects the growing interest among Arab and international scholars—particularly Spanish academics and researchers—in re-examining Arab heritage as a fundamental component of Spanish history and cultural identity.
Speakers at the ceremony highlighted that Al Andalus represented a beacon of civilizational and humanitarian influence, serving as a bridge through which human knowledge—recorded in Arabic—was transmitted to the West. This knowledge contributed significantly to advancements in medicine, mathematics, engineering, architecture, and various other sciences.
The initiative was driven by a group of professors and researchers specializing in Andalusian heritage in Jordan, motivated by the enduring presence of Al Andalus and its rich civilizational and aesthetic legacy within Arab collective consciousness.
The launch of the association follows the model of similar institutions established in several countries, including Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Spain, and others, underscoring the expanding international interest in Andalusian studies and cultural dialogue.
