Athens: Greek authorities announced today that 15 people were killed following a collision between a Hellenic Coast Guard vessel and a boat carrying migrants off the coast of the Greek island of Chios.
The Hellenic Coast Guard said that 25 migrants were rescued from the scene. One of the rescued individuals, a woman, later succumbed to her injuries, bringing the death toll to 15.
Search and rescue operations are continuing in the area, as authorities work to determine whether any additional individuals remain missing. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are underway.
