Washington: Shares of memory chip manufacturers have lost nearly $100 billion in market value this week, as easing shortages of artificial intelligence-related hardware weigh on semiconductor stocks.
Micron Technology recorded losses exceeding $70 billion in market capitalization since last week, marking a decline of about 15 percent, amid a broader sell-off in Wall Street markets.
Sandisk also saw its valuation drop by around $15 billion, while Western Digital and Seagate posted notable losses.
Market analysts attributed the decline to shifting expectations as supply constraints for memory chips begin to ease, following a period of strong gains driven by demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Investors had anticipated continued shortages of memory components used in data centers supporting advanced AI systems, which had boosted valuations across the sector.
Analysts noted that high expectations and market volatility have prompted profit-taking, contributing to the recent downturn in semiconductor stocks.
