Gaza: The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip has warned that a severe shortage of fuel and spare parts needed to operate hospital electricity generators threatens to halt medical services.
In a statement issued today, the Ministry said the health sector is facing mounting challenges due to ongoing damage to infrastructure, including hospitals and primary healthcare centers.
It noted that 90 generators are completely out of service, while 38 are operating with limited fuel supplies, and 11 require maintenance and spare parts to resume operation.
The Ministry stressed that generators have been operating continuously for more than two years under heavy pressure, placing them at risk of failure despite ongoing efforts by technical teams.
It warned that any shutdown would directly impact critical departments, including intensive care units, neonatal wards, and dialysis centers, putting patients’ lives at risk.
The Ministry also highlighted risks to medical supplies, including vaccines, blood units, and medicines, which require proper storage conditions. It added that disruptions could lead to delays in surgeries and increased pressure on emergency services.
The statement called on international humanitarian and health organizations to urgently provide fuel and spare parts to sustain hospital operations.
