Tokyo: Japan announced plans to release additional oil reserves equivalent to 20 days of domestic consumption starting early May, as part of efforts to address uncertainty in global energy supplies.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said the move follows a similar release last month aimed at supporting market stability.
She added that Japan is working to secure oil imports through alternative routes to diversify supply sources and strengthen energy security.
Japan had earlier released reserves equivalent to about 50 days of consumption in March.
According to the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Japan’s total oil reserves stood at levels sufficient to cover 230 days as of 6 April, including 143 days of government stockpiles.
