Barka: The Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation is nearing the conclusion of its 2025/2026 racing season, with 23 races completed and two remaining.
The penultimate race is scheduled for Friday, while the 25th and final race will take place on Saturday, concluding a season marked by strong competition among horses and jockeys.
The season comprised 25 races with more than 200 heats across various categories. Over 120 heats were allocated to purebred Arabian horses, including more than 45 heats for locally bred horses, in support of local breeders. More than 40 heats were designated for thoroughbreds.
Races were held at Al Rahba Racecourse in the Wilayat of Barka, which hosted 20 races, and Al Wataniya Racecourse in the Wilayat of Muttrah, which hosted three races.
Among the season’s highlights was the National Day Cup, held during the fifth race at Al Rahba Racecourse, which featured eight heats. The mare “Labwah Al Shihaniyah,” owned by Al Mashaykhi Stables, won the first heat over a distance of 1,200 metres.
The Royal Cavalry secured the Oman Derby Cup after “Al Areeq” won the seventh heat of the ninth race at Al Rahba Racecourse.
At the direction of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said patronised the annual Royal Cavalry Horse Race at Al Rahba Racecourse. The horse “Falah,” owned by HH Sayyid Shihab bin Harib Al Said, won His Majesty the Sultan’s Cup after securing first place in the fifth heat over 2,000 metres.
The 15th race at Al Wataniya Racecourse included seven heats, with “Al Shali SB,” owned by Saad bin Suhail Al Mukhaini, winning the Royal Oman Police Cup.
The remaining races are expected to conclude the season, reflecting continued development and participation in equestrian sport in the Sultanate of Oman.
