Pakistan Confirms Transfer of Iranian Ship Crew After US Operation

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the United States has evacuated 22 crew members from an Iranian-flagged container vessel to Pakistan, in preparation for handing them over to Iranian authorities.

The Ministry described the move as a confidence-building measure.

US forces had boarded the vessel, Tosca, last month. The ship, owned by an Iranian shipping company, is expected to be transferred to Pakistani waters and returned to its owners after undergoing necessary repairs.

This development follows a ceasefire in the US-Israeli war against Iran, which began on 28 February 2026 and halted combat operations about four weeks ago.

Pakistan previously hosted talks aimed at ending the conflict. While no agreement was reached, communication between the two sides has continued.

In a related context, US President Donald Trump said that discussions with Iran are “very positive” regarding possible steps to end the war.
