Gulf Games 2026: Oman Women’s Basketball Team Steps Up Preparations
Muscat: Oman’s national women’s basketball team is continuing its preparations for the Gulf Games 2026 by holding an overseas training camp in the Republic of Cyprus from 4 to 10 May.
The team is set to participate in the tournament, which will take place in Doha from 12 to 14 May, where it will compete against teams from GCC countries.
The external camp aims to enhance players’ technical and physical readiness, strengthen team cohesion and provide opportunities to develop new skills ahead of the competition.
As part of the programme, the team will play four friendly matches against local clubs, alongside participating in specialized tactical workshops designed to improve on-court coordination and performance.
Hiba bint Saeed Al Naabi, Head of the Women’s Committee at the Oman Basketball Association, said that participation in the Gulf Games represents an important step for women’s basketball in Oman, noting that the team is the only women’s team sport representing the Sultanate in the event.
She added that the participation aims to strengthen international exposure and build a competitive team for future tournaments.
Coach Wafaa Zaghdoud affirmed that the team has completed a comprehensive preparation programme covering both technical and physical aspects, stressing that the Cyprus camp provides a valuable opportunity to apply strategies in a competitive setting.
