Oman’s Shahd Al Qaydhi Secures Silver, Eyes Future E-Sports Titles

Muscat:  Omani e-sports are gaining traction as part of the broader development of the sports sector, reflecting growing youth engagement and the expansion of competitive fields beyond traditional disciplines.

In this context, Omani player Shahd bint Ali Al Qaydhi has emerged as a promising talent after securing the silver medal at the West Asian Football Championship, marking a notable achievement in the field of electronic sports.

Al Qaydhi told Oman News Agency (ONA) that her interest in sports began at an early stage, particularly in football, which she followed closely and practiced regularly, helping her build a strong foundation for her skills.

She explained that her transition into e-sports opened opportunities to compete with players from different countries, contributing to the development of her technical abilities and broadening her competitive experience.

Al Qaydhi added that her early training relied on self-practice alongside friends before participating in the first women’s e-sports championship organized by the Oman Committee for Electronic Sports, where she secured first place, marking a turning point in her career.

She described her participation in the West Asian Championship as a challenging experience due to strong competition, noting that while she aimed for gold, the result has motivated her to continue improving for future tournaments.

Al Qaydhi highlighted that such achievements contribute to enhancing Oman’s presence in international sports arenas and reflect the capabilities of Omani youth in emerging fields such as e-sports.

She noted that e-sports require high levels of focus, quick decision-making and strategic thinking, alongside discipline and consistent training.

Al Qaydhi also emphasized the role of sports in empowering youth and encouraging talent development, calling on young women to pursue their ambitions with determination and confidence.

She affirmed that her future goal is to achieve gold medals in upcoming competitions and to participate in larger regional and international events.
