Tashkent: Oman’s national under-18 beach volleyball team qualified for the round of 16 of the Asian Championship currently being held in Uzbekistan.
The national team secured qualification after defeating Singapore in straight sets during the second round of the tournament, which continues until 10 May with the participation of 25 Asian teams.
Oman won the match 21-18 and 21-14 to record its first victory in the championship after losing its opening match against Thailand.
The result placed Oman second in its group behind Thailand, securing a place in the knockout stage.
The draw will determine Oman’s opponent in the round of 16 later today.
The Omani team is represented by Haitham Al Buraiki and Mazen Al Salmani under the supervision of coach Amir Hussein.
The championship’s opening stage is being played in a round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout rounds.
The Oman Volleyball Association stated that the participation forms part of efforts to develop age-group national teams and prepare players for continental and international competitions.
