Algeria Hosts Sixth Imedghassen International Film Festival

Algiers: The sixth edition of the Imedghassen International Film Festival (IIFF) is currently taking place in the city of Batna in eastern Algeria, with 50 short films from 26 countries competing for the festival’s awards.

Italy is participating as the guest of honour at the festival, which includes official competitions for short fiction films, short documentaries and animated films.

Participating countries include Algeria, Palestine, Tunisia, Türkiye, Brazil, Germany and South Africa, alongside other countries presenting films addressing humanitarian and social issues.

Feature film screenings are being held throughout the festival at the Aurès Cinema in Batna city centre.

The festival also serves as a platform for filmmakers and artists to exchange experiences and showcase Algeria’s cultural heritage through cinema.

A training programme for youth is being organized alongside the festival, covering acting, directing and documentary filmmaking under the supervision of specialists in the field.

The programme also includes workshops aimed at discovering young talent, in addition to seminars discussing “Cinema and the Novel” and a symposium titled “Imedghassen and History.”

Festival activities further include exploratory visits to archaeological sites in the region, including the ancient city of Timgad, with the participation of artists, directors and media representatives.

The opening days of the festival witnessed strong public attendance, while workshops at the Mohamed Laid Al Khalifa Cultural House attracted cinema enthusiasts and were followed by discussion sessions with film specialists.
