Oman Athletes Join Parade at Opening of GCC Games Doha 2026
Doha: The Sultanate of Oman this evening participated in the official opening ceremony of the 4th GCC Games Doha 2026, hosted by the State of Qatar from 11 to 22 May 2026.
The opening ceremony was held at the Al Shaqab Indoor Arena in the presence of officials and sports delegations from GCC countries.
The Omani delegation was headed by HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, President of the Oman Olympic Committee and Head of Mission.
The Sultanate of Oman’s flag was carried during the athletes’ parade by Nibras Mohammed Al Touqi of the national taekwondo team and Shams Al Dahhi bint Khalil Al Khanji.
The ceremony featured artistic performances celebrating Gulf unity and the sporting event, which brings together more than 1,074 male and female athletes competing in 17 sports.
HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said said that the GCC Games embody the deep fraternal ties among GCC countries and represent an extension of a longstanding Gulf sporting tradition that has contributed over decades to strengthening relations among Gulf peoples and promoting the values of fair competition and joint cooperation.
His Highness added that the tournament is being held at an important time amid regional and global developments, reaffirming that sports remain a message of peace and a bridge for promoting understanding and human connection.
He also affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman, through its active participation in Gulf events, continues to support initiatives that strengthen cooperation, integration and fraternal relations among GCC countries and their peoples.
