Oman Raises Gulf Games Medal Tally to Seven in Doha

Omani Athletes Continue Strong Performance at Gulf Games 2026

Doha:  The Sultanate of Oman raised its tally to seven medals at the 4th Gulf Games currently taking place in Doha, Qatar, after securing its first two gold medals through taekwondo and fencing competitions.

Fidaa bint Fouad Al Barwani won Oman’s first gold medal after claiming first place in the women’s 49kg taekwondo category following a distinguished performance throughout the competition.

The second gold medal was secured by Israa bint Saif Al Siyabi after winning the women’s épée fencing competition.

In taekwondo, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Hajri won the bronze medal in the men’s 80kg category, while Shabib bin Salem Al Sinani secured bronze in the men’s 68kg category.

Ali Al Busaidi also added a bronze medal in the foil fencing competition.

With these results, Oman’s medal tally rose to seven medals, including two gold and five bronze medals.

Oman opened its medal account on the first day of the Games through Nibras bin Mohammed Al Touqi, who won bronze in the men’s 58kg taekwondo category, alongside Omaima bint Harb Al Hinai, who secured bronze in the women’s 49kg category.

Fidaa Al Barwani expressed her happiness after winning Oman’s first gold medal in the tournament, noting that the achievement represents motivation to continue achieving positive results in future competitions.

She said that despite strong competition, determination and focus enabled her to achieve her goal and raise the Omani flag on the podium.

Meanwhile, Israa Al Siyabi described winning the gold medal in the épée competition as one of the most memorable moments of her sporting career, expressing pride in dedicating the achievement to Oman.

She added that the competition witnessed closely matched levels among participants, stressing that preparation and support from the technical and administrative teams contributed significantly to the result.

Omani national teams continue their participation in the tournament, with the athletics team set to compete tomorrow in several men’s and women’s events.

The national shooting team will also begin its participation in the men’s 10m air rifle competition with shooters Hamad bin Saeed Al Khatri, Salem bin Ali Al Naabi and Ali bin Sulaiman Al Saidi, while the women’s team includes Amina bint Khamis Al Tarshiya, Safaa bint Saeed Al Jabri and Al Anoud bint Abdullah Al Khaliliya.

The national snooker team will start its participation in singles competitions through players Ahmed bin Bashir Al Khasibi and Qasim bin Rashid Al Balushi, while the national table tennis team continues its matches in the tournament.

The national swimming team will conclude its participation with swimmer Hamad bin Sulaiman Al Hasani competing in the 1500m freestyle event and Mohammed bin Khamis Al Wahaibi participating in the 50m backstroke race.
