Moscow:– The Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that a cluster of large sunspots has appeared on the far side of the sun and could become one of the most dangerous groups observed in recent years.
The laboratory said the massive sunspot cluster is currently being monitored by the Solar Orbiter spacecraft.
Scientists described the new centre of solar activity as among the largest detected in recent years, noting that a similar phenomenon recorded two years ago triggered a series of eruptions that caused the strongest magnetic storm in two decades.
Solar flares can generate magnetic storms on Earth, potentially affecting power grids, shortwave communications and navigation systems, according to scientists.
Researchers also noted that increased solar activity may influence the migration patterns of birds and animals and expand the geographical areas where the aurora borealis can be observed.
