MSX Rises 143 Points, Ending Four-Week Losing Streak

Muscat: The main index of the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) gained 143 points last week to close at 7,775 points, recording its first weekly increase after four consecutive weeks of decline. The rise was supported by renewed investor buying interest following recent price declines across several stocks.

All sectoral indices posted gains during the week, led by the financial sector index, which advanced by 217 points, supported by stronger performance from banking and investment company shares. The services sector index rose by 68 points, driven by gains in energy companies and other listed firms, while the industrial sector index increased by 42 points. The Sharia Index also advanced by 10 points to close at 622 points.

A total of 50 securities recorded gains during the week, compared to 14 securities that declined and 20 that remained unchanged. The positive market performance contributed to an increase in market capitalization, which rose by approximately OMR 327 million to reach OMR 37.12 billion by the end of the week.

Trading activity was conducted over two sessions, as the exchange remained closed for three days during the Eid Al Adha holiday. Total trading value reached OMR 103.2 million, while the number of executed transactions stood at 12,683.

OQ Base Industries topped the list of most traded companies by value, with transactions totaling OMR 28.05 million, accounting for 27 percent of total trading value. Bank Sohar International ranked second with OMR 14.68 million, followed by Bank Muscat with OMR 14.05 million. OQ Exploration and Production recorded trades worth OMR 12.25 million, while OQ Gas Networks registered OMR 12.09 million.

National Gas posted the highest share price increase, rising 7.5 percent to close at 115 baisas. Al Anwar Investments gained 7.4 percent to close at 173 baisas, while Al Anqa Energy advanced 6.5 percent to close at 245 baisas.

On the downside, Al Hassan Engineering recorded the largest decline, falling 27 percent to close at 8 baisas. Oman Fisheries dropped 8 percent to 23 baisas, while Building Materials Industry declined 5 percent to close at 76 baisas.

In corporate developments, Bank Sohar International announced the successful issuance and allocation of 259.5 million mandatory convertible bonds valued at OMR 25.9 million. The bonds were listed on the Muscat Stock Exchange on 24 May and carry an annual interest rate of 5.25 percent.

The Oman National Engineering and Investment Company announced that it had secured two operation and maintenance contracts for a government entity valued at OMR 8.5 million over a three-year period starting from 1 July 2026.

Meanwhile, Oman Fisheries Company reported a reduction in its first-quarter losses to OMR 475,000, compared to losses of OMR 629,000 during the corresponding period of 2025. The company’s accumulated losses increased to OMR 22.6 million at the end of March 2026, compared to OMR 20.2 million a year earlier.
