Kyiv: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed concern over reports of a drone strike targeting a machine hall at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in southeastern Ukraine and has requested access to the site to assess the situation.
The United Nations nuclear watchdog said in a post on X that its experts stationed at the facility have sought permission to inspect the reportedly damaged building.
The agency noted that, if confirmed, the incident would represent the first drone attack on the plant since April 2024.
Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is under Russian control, is the largest nuclear power facility in Europe. It comprises six reactors with a combined generating capacity of approximately 6,000 megawatts.
The IAEA continues to monitor developments at the plant as part of its efforts to support nuclear safety and security.
