Oman Qualifies for 2026 Asian Games Cricket Despite Semifinal Loss to Nepal

Singapore: Oman lost to Nepal in the semifinal of the Asian Games men’s T20 cricket qualifiers being held in Singapore, with Nepal securing victory by 8 runs.

The qualifiers determine the teams that will participate in the men’s cricket competition at the 20th Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from 19 September to 4 October 2026.

Oman will face Malaysia tomorrow in the third-place playoff, while Nepal will meet Hong Kong in the final to decide the tournament champion.

Despite the semifinal defeat, Oman has officially secured qualification for the 2026 Asian Games, alongside the other teams that advanced to the semifinal stage.

The Omani side began its qualifying campaign with a victory over host nation Singapore before registering a second win against Bahrain to book its place in the decisive rounds of the competition.

At the Asian Games, Oman will join leading Asian cricket nations, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, as well as host nation Japan and the other teams that qualified through the tournament in Singapore.
