Japan to Send Delegation to Greenland to Assess Rare Earth Mineral Potential

Tokyo: Japan is preparing to dispatch a delegation to Greenland this summer to assess the feasibility of extracting rare earth minerals, according to a report published by the Nikkei newspaper today.

The delegation is expected to include officials from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, representatives of trading companies, and the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security.

According to the report, the delegation will hold discussions with Greenlandic government officials on opportunities related to the development of rare earth mineral resources.

Greenland has attracted growing international attention due to its strategic geographic location and its substantial reserves of rare earth minerals, which are considered vital for a range of advanced industries and technologies.

The visit comes amid increasing global interest in securing critical mineral supplies and enhancing resource diversification strategies.
