    Spain Records 1,028 Heat-Related Deaths in June

    Madrid:- Spain recorded 1,028 heat-related deaths during June 2026, according to data released by the Carlos III Health Institute.

    The figure represents a significant increase compared to the 407 heat-related deaths recorded during the corresponding month of 2025.

    Earlier, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that around 150 million people across Europe are experiencing extreme heat, with hundreds of deaths already reported.

    He warned that homes, workplaces and schools are not adequately equipped to cope with soaring temperatures, while electricity grids are facing increasing pressure.

    Tedros added that climate change and global warming have made heatwaves, once considered rare events, an annual occurrence in many parts of Europe.
