US-Iran Military Tensions Escalate for Fourth Night as Airstrikes and Missile Attacks Continue

US-Iran Conflict Intensifies; Kuwait and Jordan Intercept Aerial Attacks

Washington: Military tensions between the United States and Iran continued to escalate for the fourth consecutive night, as the United States launched a fresh wave of airstrikes targeting sites inside Iran. In response, Iran announced missile and drone attacks against multiple locations across the region, further heightening regional instability despite the fragile ceasefire brokered in late June.

US President Donald Trump yesterday reimposed a naval blockade on all Iranian ports and warned that the United States could target Iranian power plants and bridges as early as next week unless Tehran resumes negotiations.

In Kuwait, authorities announced that air defence forces successfully intercepted and repelled hostile drone attacks early today. Officials also confirmed that a fire that broke out at one of the country’s facilities following the attacks had been brought under control.

Jordan also reported that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles that entered its airspace during the early hours of Wednesday. Authorities confirmed that no casualties or material damage were recorded.

Meanwhile, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk warned that the renewed escalation between the United States and Iran represents a major setback to regional peace efforts.

In a statement, Türk said that the resumption of large-scale hostilities threatens regional stability and poses serious risks to human rights across the Middle East. He called on all parties to fully respect international humanitarian law, protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and comply with their obligations under international human rights law.

He also urged all sides to prioritise diplomacy, exercise maximum restraint, de-escalate tensions, and immediately return to the ceasefire in accordance with international law.

The renewed conflict has also continued to impact global energy markets, with benchmark Brent crude oil rising by around 15 percent over the past seven days to its highest level since mid-June.
