    • France Raises Wildfire Alert Across 27 Regions Amid Extreme Heat

    Paris: French authorities have raised the wildfire alert level across 27 regions as high temperatures and prolonged dry conditions increase the risk of forest fires following a series of blazes in southern France and the island of Corsica.

    France’s national weather service said 27 regions, primarily in the western and southern parts of the country, have been placed under high wildfire risk, while six regions, including Hérault, Gard, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Corsica, remain under an orange heatwave alert.

    Several wildfires broke out on Sunday in the Var region in southeastern France, prompting authorities to temporarily close parks and forest areas as a precaution while firefighting teams continue efforts to contain the flames.

    In Haute-Corse in northern Corsica, wildfires ignited by lightning strikes have been burning for more than a week, with prevailing weather conditions continuing to favour their spread.

    The national weather service expects the wildfire danger to intensify further on Tuesday, with four southern regions forecast to be placed under the very high wildfire risk category as hot and dry weather persists.
