    Oman U-18 Basketball Team Set to Face Kuwait in Asian Qualifiers Opener

    Doha: Oman’s national under-18 basketball team will begin its campaign in the Gulf qualifiers for the FIBA U18 Asian Cup Finals today with an opening match against Kuwait in Doha, Qatar.

    The tournament, running from July 25 to 30, features five Gulf nations competing in a single round-robin format for the lone qualifying spot to the continental finals.

    The Omani squad enters the competition after completing its final preparations, with the coaching staff focusing on technical and tactical training sessions aimed at improving match readiness and strengthening team cohesion.

    Preparations included an overseas training camp in the Kingdom of Bahrain from July 2 to 15, where the team played five friendly matches against Bahraini clubs, followed by a domestic camp at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher to further enhance the players’ physical and technical performance.

    Following today’s opener against Kuwait, Oman will face Bahrain on July 27, Qatar on July 29, and Saudi Arabia on July 30, while July 28 has been designated as a rest day for all participating teams.

    The Gulf qualifiers serve as an important pathway to the FIBA U18 Asian Cup Finals while providing Omani players with valuable competitive experience against regional opponents, supporting the continued development of youth basketball in the Sultanate.
