Oman Consumer Protection Authority Sets New Controls for Used Vehicle Spare Parts

Consumer Protection Authority Issues Decision No. (363/2026) on the Controls Governing the Trading and Use of Used Spare Parts for Vehicles

Muscat: His Excellency Sulaim bin Ali bin Sulaim Al Hikmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority, issued Decision No. (363/2026) concerning the controls governing the trading and use of used spare parts for vehicles. The Decision shall come into force on the day following the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

The provisions of the Decision apply to vehicle repair, maintenance, painting and bodywork workshops and centres, as well as shops trading in used vehicle spare parts. The Annex to the Decision also identifies a list of used spare parts that are prohibited from being traded.

The Decision obliges suppliers to provide a warranty for used spare parts that are sold or installed, in accordance with what is agreed between the two parties, provide consumers with an invoice containing the information specified in the Decision, and obtain the consumer’s prior written consent before commencing any repair, replacement or installation of any part.

Without prejudice to the criminal penalties stipulated in the Consumer Protection Law, an administrative fine not exceeding OMR (1,000) one thousand shall be imposed on any person who violates the provisions of the Decision. The fine shall be doubled in the event of a repeated violation. If the violation continues, an administrative fine not exceeding OMR (50) fifty shall be imposed for each day the violation continues, provided that the total amount does not exceed OMR (2,000) two thousand.

The Decision forms part of the Authority’s efforts to regulate the trading and use of used vehicle spare parts, strengthen compliance with the controls governing this activity, and protect consumer rights.
