Muscat (ONA): The first edition of the Athletics Grand Prix Competitions, organized by Oman Athletics Association, will kick off on 5 September 2026 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, Governorate of Muscat.
The competitions will see the participation of about 300 male and female athletes representing 40 countries from different continents of the world.
The participants will compete in 23 races and competitions, including sprints, hurdles, middle distance runs, relays, jumping and hurling. The technical programme of the competitions includes races of 100 metre runs, 110 metre hurdles and races of 200 metres, 300 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres and 800 metres (for the under-20 years segment), middle and long distance races of 1500 metres and 3000 metres and the 4×100 metre relay, in addition to competitions of hammer throw, shot put, javelin, long jump and triple jump.
The competitions includes the Continental Tour Bronze, followed by the International Challenge Tour competitions, as part of the system of world tours approved by the International Association of Athletics Federations—which offers athletes an opportunity to obtain ranking points and enhances their chances of qualifying to major continental and international championship and events.
During a press conference it held today, the champion’s organizing committee outlined technical and organizational features of the first edition of the Athletics Grand Prix competitions and ongoing preparations for the event.
