Bahla’s Sunt Mosque Opens After RO1 Million Construction Project
Bahla: The Sunt Mosque in the Wilayat of Bahla, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, was inaugurated today under the patronage of His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Kahlan bin Nabhan Al Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman.
Friday prayers were held at the mosque, with His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Kahlan leading the worshippers.
In his sermon, His Eminence highlighted the importance of constructing and maintaining mosques and their role in strengthening religious and social values. He noted that mosques serve as centres of worship, knowledge, communication and social harmony.
He said the inauguration coincides with the anniversary of the Prophet’s birth, recalling the values of mercy, tolerance, brotherhood and solidarity embodied in the Prophet Muhammad’s biography and emphasizing the role of mosques in building individuals and serving society.
The mosque represents a new religious and architectural landmark serving residents of the area and neighbouring communities. It was constructed on a building area of approximately 2,350 square metres, with a capacity of up to 3,000 worshippers, including a dedicated women’s prayer hall accommodating around 200 worshippers.
The mosque occupies a land area of approximately 5,490 square metres, while the total cost of the project is estimated at RO1 million. The project also includes an independent residence for the imam and a number of service facilities.
The mosque’s architectural design draws inspiration from Islamic architectural aesthetics and elements of Omani civilization and heritage. The design complements the urban character of the area and reflects efforts to preserve Oman’s architectural identity in places of worship.
The mosque is surrounded by a boundary wall and includes spacious parking areas, facilitating access for worshippers and supporting the hosting of religious and social activities.
