Rustaq Showcases Rich Heritage and Tourism Potential in South Al Batinah

Rustaq: Rustaq continues to strengthen its position as a major historical, tourism and development destination in South Al Batinah Governorate, supported by its role as the governorate’s administrative centre and its diverse natural and cultural assets.

The wilayat is home to prominent landmarks including Rustaq Castle and Al Hazm Fort, alongside natural attractions such as Ain Al Kasfa, Ain Al Huwait and Al Khaba Al Zarqa, as well as Falaj Al Maysar.

Its valleys, waterfalls and mountain villages—including Wadi Al Hawqain, Wadi Bani Awf, Wadi Sahtan and Balad Seet—offer opportunities to develop nature, adventure and heritage tourism experiences.

Ongoing road, infrastructure, tourism and service projects are also supporting quality of life and strengthening the local economy.

Rustaq’s growing development, combined with its historical heritage, mountain landscapes, water springs and agricultural traditions, positions the wilayat as an important destination for tourism, investment and sustainable economic activity in South Al Batinah.

Rustaq is witnessing continued investment in education, infrastructure, urban development and tourism, strengthening its role as a key administrative and economic centre in South Al Batinah Governorate.

The wilayat has 50 government schools serving students across its communities, while several infrastructure projects are progressing, including the paving of 40 kilometres of internal roads, with 33 kilometres completed and overall progress reaching 80%.

The box culvert project has reached 90% completion, while the Rustaq City Walk is 50% complete and the Aqaba Al-Rustaq Gate development has reached 60%.

Work is also progressing on parks in Al Hawqain, Amq and Jamma, with the project 60% complete, while the third phase of development at Ain Al Kasfa has recently begun.

Meanwhile, the rehabilitation of the approximately 11-kilometre road between Al Hazm and Al Washil is aimed at improving road safety, traffic flow and connectivity between communities.

With its castles, forts, springs, valleys, mountain villages and heritage sites, Rustaq also has significant potential for integrated tourism development, creating opportunities for hospitality, restaurants, adventure activities and other private-sector projects.

Officials say stronger cooperation between government institutions, the private sector and the local community will be key to transforming Rustaq’s natural and historical assets into sustainable tourism and economic opportunities.
