Musandam’s Dibba–Lima–Khasab Road Project Reaches 76% Completion

Khasab: The completion rate of the Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road Project “Dibba–Lima–Khasab” in Musandam Governorate has reached about 76 percent, with the project’s total cost exceeding RO 151 million.

Implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the project is one of the strategic infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening connectivity between the wilayats and districts of Musandam Governorate, improving transportation and supporting economic and tourism activity.

Engineer Hamdan bin Amer Al-Issai, Head of the Design Follow-up, Research and Development Department at the Ministry and Director of the project, said the road represents a qualitative addition to Musandam’s road network, contributing to improved connectivity between different areas, facilitating access to villages and population centers, and supporting commercial and tourism activities.

He explained that the project extends for 72 kilometers and consists of three sections. The first section runs from Khasab to the Lima district for 20 kilometers, the second extends for 8 kilometers within Lima, while the third connects Lima with the Wilayat of Dibba over 44 kilometers.

The project includes approximately 198 concrete structures for rainwater drainage, in addition to a two-lane road, with one lane in each direction. Each lane is approximately 3.6 meters wide, with 1.5-meter side shoulders and prepared earth shoulders to allow for future expansion according to traffic requirements.

Al-Issai noted that the road’s design takes into consideration the mountainous terrain and climatic conditions of Musandam Governorate, enhancing road safety, traffic efficiency and accessibility for different types of vehicles.

Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly reduce travel times between the governorate’s wilayats and districts. The journey between Khasab and Dibba is expected to take approximately 55 minutes, compared with around two and a half hours previously, while travel between Lima and Khasab is expected to take about 20 minutes.

The project is also expected to improve traffic flow and connectivity across Musandam, while stimulating tourism and commercial activity and creating new opportunities for investment and development in the areas served by the road.
