388 Doctors and Nurses Join Oman Medical Specialty Board Training Programs
Muscat (ONA): The number of enrollees in specialized training programs for the academic year 2026/2027 at Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) reached 388 male and female doctors and nurses from various health institutions in the Sultanate of Oman, including 217 male and female doctors in local residency and fellowship programs, and 171 male and female nurses in specialized postgraduate diploma programs.
The new batch includes 207 male and female doctors who joined local residency programs in 21 specialties, alongside 10 doctors who joined seven local fellowship programs, while 171 male and female nurses joined nine programs in the specialized postgraduate diploma, as part of the Board’s efforts to develop the advanced medical education and training system and supply the health sector with qualified national cadres keeping pace with scientific and technological developments and meeting national health needs.
Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al Ajmi, CEO of Oman Medical Specialty Board, emphasized in a speech during the induction day for the new batch the importance of the training phase joined by the doctors and nurses, and the Board’s role in providing an integrated academic and training environment that contributes to developing their professional and scientific knowledge and skills, reflecting positively on the quality of healthcare provided in the Sultanate of Oman.
Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, also attended the induction day event and delivered a speech to the trainees joining the Board this year. During the speech Al Sabti affirmed the importance of science and continuous learning as a fundamental pillar for developing the health sector and elevating the quality of its services.
He urged the trainees to seize the educational and training opportunities provided by the Board, embody responsibility and perseverance, and constantly strive toward excellence, thereby contributing to building qualified national competencies capable of keeping pace with health sector developments, meeting its needs, and effectively contributing to enhancing healthcare quality and serving society.
This year, doctors join 21 residency programs in the specialties of histopathology, anesthesia, clinical biochemistry, dermatology, emergency medicine, family medicine, general dentistry, general surgery, hematology, internal medicine, medical microbiology, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, otorhinolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, psychiatry, pediatrics, radiology and urology.
Local fellowship programs also include the specialties of adult cardiology, otology, pediatric hematology and oncology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric intensive care, adult hematology, and medical genetics, in addition to the General Foundation Program joined by general practitioners following the internship year.
The specialized postgraduate diploma includes nine programs comprising postgraduate diplomas in pediatric and neonatal critical care nursing, mental health nursing, adult critical care nursing, emergency nursing, infection prevention and control, renal nursing, community health, health services management, and midwifery.
Oman Medical Specialty Board is considered the leading entity in the field of advanced medical education in the Sultanate of Oman, offering programs internationally accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGME-International) in the United States of America according to the latest global standards, contributing to raising the efficiency of health cadres and improving the quality of healthcare provided to patients.
