More Than 332,000 Livestock Vaccinated in South Al Batinah
Rustaq: The Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in South Al Batinah Governorate has implemented the national livestock vaccination campaign for the 2025–2026 season, benefiting 332,674 animals and 3,752 livestock breeders.
The campaign aims to strengthen herd health, prevent the spread of animal diseases and enhance preventive veterinary services across the governorate.
The campaign exceeded its target, achieving a completion rate of 167 percent, while the number of vaccinated animals increased by 5.3 percent compared with the targeted figures.
The vaccination operations covered various wilayats in South Al Batinah, with 105,129 livestock vaccinated in Barka, 97,874 in Rustaq, 76,160 in Al Musannah, 28,086 in Nakhl, 14,265 in Al Awabi and 11,160 in Wadi Al Maawil.
By type, the vaccinated livestock comprised 228,992 goats, 89,137 sheep, 14,450 cattle and 95 camels.
The programme targeted several animal diseases, including peste des petits ruminants, pox, foot-and-mouth disease, enterotoxemia, lumpy skin disease and rabies. It also provided preventive veterinary services to livestock breeders across the governorate.
Campaign indicators showed a decline in the number of animals requiring treatment during 2023, 2024 and 2025 by 22 percent, 30 percent and 27 percent, respectively. The figures highlight the importance of expanding preventive and immunization programmes to strengthen livestock health.
A total of 7,298 vaccine packages were used during the season, reflecting the scale of veterinary operations carried out under the campaign.
National livestock vaccination programmes contribute to protecting animal health, reducing losses caused by diseases and supporting sustainable livestock production. They also contribute to Oman’s efforts to enhance food security, develop the livestock sector and improve the efficiency of veterinary services provided to breeders.
