    HM Sultan Haitham, Botswana President Discuss Energy, Mining and Investment

    Gaborone: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik held a bilateral meeting with President Duma Gideon Boko of the Republic of Botswana at the Presidency of the Republic in Gaborone this evening, as part of His Majesty’s state visit to Botswana.

    During the meeting, the two sides underscored the longstanding relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Botswana and the importance of strengthening and developing them in a manner that serves their common interests and delivers greater mutual benefits.

    An expanded session of official talks was subsequently held under the chairmanship of His Majesty Sultan Haitham and President Duma Gideon Boko. The talks reviewed existing areas of cooperation and ways to expand them, particularly in renewable energy, mining, investment, logistics, food security and agriculture.

    The Omani side at the talks included His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs; Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court; Gen. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Nomani, Minister of the Royal Office; Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister; Dr. Hamad bin Said Al Aufi, Head of the Private Office; Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority; Anwar bin Hilal Al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion; and Ambassador Ali bin Said Al Kathiri, Head of Oman’s Mission to South Africa.

    The Botswana side included Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, Vice President and Minister of Finance; Dr. Phenyo Butale, Minister of International Relations; Moeti C. Mohwasa, Minister for State President, Defence and Security; Bogolo Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy; Tiroeaone Ntsima, Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship; Dr. Stephen Modise, Minister of Health; Major General Pius Mokgware, Minister of Labour and Home Affairs; and Noah Salakae, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.

    At the conclusion of the talks, His Majesty Sultan Haitham inscribed the Distinguished Visitors’ Book. Commemorative gifts were also exchanged between His Majesty and President Boko, reflecting the friendly relations between Oman and Botswana.
