Oman’s Shura Council Joins WTO Parliamentary Conference Steering Committee

Geneva:  The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Shura Council, has secured membership in the Steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference of the World Trade Organization (PCWTO), strengthening Oman’s parliamentary and diplomatic presence in international forums dealing with trade, the economy and development.

The membership provides Oman with a broader role in parliamentary discussions on issues related to international trade and investment, trade facilitation, digital trade, supply chains, support for small and medium enterprises, food security and sustainable development.

It also enables the Shura Council to participate in discussions on the conference’s priorities, contribute to parliamentary perspectives on international trade issues, exchange expertise with participating parliaments and enhance parliamentary and economic cooperation.

The membership is in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly those related to building a diversified and competitive economy, improving the investment environment, developing exports, empowering the private sector and expanding Oman’s presence in regional and international markets.

It also provides an opportunity to highlight Oman’s experience in economic diversification, free and industrial zones, logistics, the digital economy, small and medium enterprises, investment and tourism.

Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Rashid Al Hashemi, member of the Shura Council, assumed membership in the Steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference of the World Trade Organization during the WTO Public Forum and the 57th meeting of the conference’s Steering Committee, held in Geneva from Sept. 15 to 18.

The membership represents an additional step in strengthening Oman’s international parliamentary engagement and its participation in global discussions on the future of trade and development.
