Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, participated in the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development (Mondiacult 2022), which kicked off here today.
Oman’s delegation in the conference was headed by Sayyid Said Sultan Al Busaidi, Culture Undersecretary. Dr. Hamad Saif Ali Al Hammami, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the UNESCO also took part in the event.
The conference aims to promote global dialogue on the role of culture in sustainable development. It also seeks to support member states in adapting and effectively implementing their cultural policies to respond to contemporary challenges.
The event touched on challenges that effected the cultural policies, such as the repercussions of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and climate change.
Moreover, the conference underscored the importance of protecting, preserving and documenting cultural heritage.
Oman’s participation in Mondiacult 2022 comes within the framework of the Rawabet project that promotes the external cultural presence of Oman, establishes international cultural relations and enhances cultural diplomacy.
