Oman Automobile Association organizes 68 motorsport events for 2022/2023 season

Muscat: The Oman Automobile Association organizes a press conference at its headquarters at Airport Heights to announce the calendar of the 2022/2023 sports season for motorsport, in addition to a set of achievements during the last period.

The conference was held in the presence of Sulaiman bin Abdullah Al Rawahi, Director General of the Society, Anwar bin Ali Al Zadjali, Advisor to the Society, and Fahmi bin Nasser Al Busaidi, Director of the International Drift Championship.

Sulaiman bin Abdullah Al-Rawahi said: The calendar of the 2022/2023 sports season contains 68 championships, including 8 international championships that meet the desires and tastes of motorsports enthusiasts in the Sultanate of Oman, such as drifting, rallying, karting, four-wheel drive, freestyle racing, digital car racing and remote control car racing. And many events during the season, with the aim of developing motorsports and facilities and attracting the largest number of participants from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

Al-Rawahi touched on the Oman Freestyle Championship, which will be contested for its title in five rounds for the saloon and SUV categories, and the first round of it will start on October 28, and this applies to the Oman Double Drift Championship, which will start on November 25 through the establishment of 6 tours.

Al-Rawahi added that the Muscat Speedway Karting Circuit will host a wide range of local, international and regional tournaments during the current sports season. The local championships will include SWS speed races for different age groups, endurance races, Rotax Max challenges and the Kart Attack Championship. With regard to international tournaments, Oman succeeded in obtaining the rights to organize the third consecutive edition of the Middle East and North Africa Karting Championship (the 2022 Nations Cup), which will be hosted by the Muscat Speedway from December 13 to 17, in addition to the Oman and UAE Rotax Max Challenge. It will be held in three rounds, starting on December 7.

He stated that the Oman Auto Association achieved success last season by organizing the first championship for electronic car racing, which resulted in the victory of the racer Abdullah Al-Tawqi in the Rally Star Middle East and North Africa Championship at Yas Marina Circuit in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi, and the crowning of the racer Mohammed Al-Barwani in the Middle East and North Africa Championship for Racing. Electronic cars will be held on October 7, 2022 in the Jordanian capital, Amman. The second edition of the championship comes with 12 rounds of the Oman Electronic Racing Championship, which will start on October 29.

Fahmi Al Busaidi said: The Oman International Drift Championship is one of the most famous and strongest drifting championships in the world, and the audience from inside and outside Oman is eager to attend its rounds because of the strong presence of the most prominent drift racers in the world, and this season will be competing for the title of the fifth edition of The tournament will be divided into four rounds instead of three, as was usual in the previous four editions, with the first round taking place on January 12 and 13, 2023.

Anwar bin Ali Al Zadjali spoke about the Oman Rally Championship – which is one of the oldest motor sport championships in the Sultanate of Oman – saying: It is held on rough and unpaved roads in different regions in the states of the Sultanate of Oman, and it will be contested through four rounds starting from the 21st of October.

As for the “international rally”, Al-Zadjali explained that Oman has a record and history of holding a round of the Middle East Rally Championship since the end of the seventies, and it has maintained its holding despite going through many stages of stoppage, and the most prominent motorsport champions in the world, such as the world champion, participated in it. For the Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah, Emirati Mohammed bin Sulayem, Qatari Saeed Al-Hajri and other stars, the next edition will be held from January 26 to 28, 2023, with the participation of the most prominent drivers of the Middle East and North Africa and the most prominent racers of the Sultanate of Oman.
