    • Nearly 8,000 expats left government sector in Oman: NCSI

    Muscat: On Thursday, the National Center for Statistics and Information issued the monthly statistical bulletin “August 2020”.

    The statistic indicated that the number of expatriates working in the government sector witnessed a decrease of more than 15% in July 2020 compared to June 2020, and a decrease of 18.8% compared to July 2019.

    The statistic showed that the number of expatriates working in the government sector reached 44,558 workers until July 2020, a decrease of 7,904 workers from the 52,462 registered until the end of June 2020.

    The number of expatriate workers in the private and family sectors decreased from 1,259,814 and 277,607 in June 2020 to 1,228,713 and 268,798 in July 2020, respectively, as their number in the private sector decreased by 31,101 workers and by 8,809 workers in the family sector.

    The statistic revealed that the total number of expatriates working in the Sultanate reached 1,542,069 workers, distributed according to the following:

    Governmental: 44,558
    Private: 1,228,713
    Family: 268,798

    Distribution by nationality:

    1, Bangladesh – 580,132

    2, India – 542,091

    3, Pakistan – 185,626

    4, Philippines – 46,531

    5, Egypt – 32,602

    6, Sri lankan -22,120

    7, Uganda – 15,376

    8, Nepal – 15,345

    9, Tanzania – 14,451

    10, Other nationalities – 87,795

    Total – 1,542, 069

    On the other hand, National Center for Statistics and Information revealed that the total number of expatriates in the Sultanate, as of Thursday, August 20, 2020, reached 1,767,338 expatriates, constituting 39.3% of the population in the Sultanate.
