Kuwait: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah took the constitutional oath as Kuwait’s new Amir during a special National Assembly session on Wednesday.
In a speech after taking constitutional oath in parliament, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah eulogized the late Amir His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who he described as his “brother and companion”.
His Highness the Amir then reiterated the need for tackling the huge responsibilities ahead. “We have previously asserted that there are responsibilities that the two authorities are required to tackle to serve the public interest,” His Highness said, referring to the Cabinet and Parliament. “However, we haven’t witnessed change.”
His Highness the Amir said that the legislative and executive authorities have “joined hands to hurt the interests of the country and its people” through government appointments, rushing the reconciliation law, the citizenships and pardon file and their ramifications. “What happened was proof of the level of damage affecting the country’s interests, amid silence from both authorities,” he said.
