Moroccan Rachid El Morabity wins first place in the Humm running race in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate

Nizwa: Moroccan runner Rachid Al Morabiti won first place in the men’s category in the Humm Mountain Running Race in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, which is considered one of the most difficult races in the region, covering a distance of 110 km.

Rashid Al Morabiti won first place in the men’s category with a time of 15 hours and 54 minutes, confirming his position as one of the best runners on the world stage.

Omani runner Saleh bin Ali Al Saidi came in second place after a strong performance with a time of 16 hours and 22 minutes, reflecting the progress of Omani runners in this type of race.

The 110 km race started in Al Hamra through its orchards and Misfat Al Abriyeen village, ascending to the Al Alamein balcony in the eastern mountain, before heading to Al Jabal Al Akhdar through the mountain paths, reaching the finish line in Birkat Al Mouz. The race lasts for 32 hours. Third place went to Russian Navel Shaimukhamitov, who finished the race in 16 hours and 38 minutes.

In the women’s category, Spanish Maite Mayor achieved first place with a great time of 17 hours and 40 minutes, while Moroccan Aziza Al Raji came in second with a time of 21 hours and 33 minutes, and Russian Tatiana Fedoseeva came in third with a time of 23 hours and 7 minutes.

The race, organised by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in partnership with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, aims to focus on the natural and cultural assets of the Sultanate of Oman, and to promote sports tourism in a way that supports the local economy, in addition to being an opportunity to introduce the beauty of the Al Hajar Mountains terrain and the heritage of the participating states.

The race will continue next Friday with a 55 km race starting from the Imti archaeological district in the Wilayat of Izki, where participants will cross the orchards of the Wilayat and ascend the paths of the Green Mountain and through its picturesque villages, with the race ending in Birkat al-Mouz after 14 hours of competition and challenge.
