Beijing: China today launched a Long March-8 rocket from Hainan Province, carrying 18 internet satellites into space.
The launch took place from a commercial spaceport in Hainan, successfully placing the satellites—part of the seventh batch of the Qianfan internet constellation—into their designated orbit.
The project aims to establish a satellite-based internet network consisting of thousands of low Earth orbit satellites to provide high-speed global connectivity, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
The launch forms part of an ongoing series of missions that began in 2024, as China accelerates deployment of the constellation, which is expected to include more than 15,000 satellites upon completion.
