China’s Exports, Imports Register Strong Growth in May

Beijing: China’s exports rose by 19.4 percent year-on-year in May 2026, while imports increased by 27.4 percent, according to data released by the country’s customs authorities today.

The export growth exceeded economists’ expectations of a 15 percent increase, following a 14.1 percent rise recorded in April.

Imports also surpassed forecasts, with analysts having projected annual growth of 25 percent. Imports had increased by 25.3 percent during the corresponding period a year earlier.

The latest trade figures indicate continued growth in China’s external trade activity, supported by strong export performance and rising import demand.
