Beijing:  China’s foreign exchange reserves increased to $3.4422 trillion at the end of May 2026, marking an increase of $31.7 billion, or 0.93 percent, compared to the level recorded at the end of April, according to official data.

The State Administration of Foreign Exchange attributed the increase to developments in the global macroeconomic environment, expectations regarding monetary policies in major economies and fluctuations in the US dollar index, in addition to a general rise in global financial asset prices.

According to the administration, currency conversion effects and changes in asset valuations jointly contributed to the growth of foreign exchange reserves during May.

The administration noted that China’s economy continues to maintain stable growth momentum while making steady progress in high-quality development, providing support for the overall stability of the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
