    Youth Ecothon 2026 Concludes in Dhofar with 20 Environmental Innovations

    Salalah: The second edition of the Talenco International Environment Hackathon, Youth Ecothon 2026, concluded today in Dhofar Governorate after two days of competitions and innovation-focused activities at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah.

    The event, organized by Talenco International for Talents and Innovations, coincided with the Dhofar Autumn Season 2026 and featured the recognition of winning innovations and projects. The programme also saw the presentation of the Muscat University Award for Environmental Innovations, introduced this year to support young people in transforming environmental ideas into projects with sustainable scientific, economic and social value.

    Engineer Ahmed bin Saeed Al Ghafri, CEO of Talenco Global for Talents and Innovations, said that environmental challenges related to energy, food security and water require innovative technological solutions capable of turning challenges into economic opportunities and future jobs.

    The hackathon attracted 193 applicants from 22 Arab countries. Following a selection process, 28 participants advanced to the initial screening stage, with 20 innovative projects ultimately qualifying for the final round.

    The projects addressed a broad range of environmental challenges, including water management and purification, oil-contaminated water treatment, recycling, pharmaceutical and solid-waste management, as well as the use of nanotechnology and artificial intelligence in smart agriculture and plant-health monitoring.

    Other innovations focused on protecting ecosystems, mangroves and biodiversity, alongside energy-saving and thermal-insulation solutions and technologies for monitoring air quality and gas emissions.

    The event was inaugurated on its first day under the patronage of Sheikh Tariq bin Khalid bin Al-Walid Al-Hinai, Wali of Taqah, who also toured the accompanying exhibition and reviewed the participating projects.

    The latest edition reflects the continued expansion of the Talenco innovation ecosystem, whose database includes more than 26,000 talented and innovative individuals.
