Experience Oman Ironman Middle East Championship Kicks Off in Muscat on 13 February

Muscat:  The Sultanate of Oman is preparing to host the Middle East Championship “Experience Oman Ironman 70.3 – Muscat” from 13 to 14 February, in a prominent international sporting event that strengthens Oman’s position as a leading destination for sports tourism in the region.

The championship is organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in cooperation with the Middle East International Events Foundation, as part of the Ironman 70.3 World Series affiliated with the Ironman Group. The event is considered one of the most prominent triathlon races in the region and offers qualifying athletes the opportunity to compete in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

Hosting the championship comes within the framework of the strategic partnership concluded between the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Ironman Group International, which extends until 2030. The partnership aims to expand the presence of Ironman races in the Sultanate of Oman and enhance its role as a major stop on the regional and international endurance sports calendar.

Haitham bin Mohammed Al Ghassani, Director General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, affirmed that hosting the Experience Oman Ironman Middle East Championship in Muscat represents an important opportunity to showcase Oman’s unique tourism assets and strengthen its presence on the global sports tourism map.

He explained that the Sultanate of Oman possesses diverse natural resources that qualify it to host major international sporting events, including extensive coastlines, towering mountains, vast deserts, picturesque valleys, and open natural trails with exceptional scenic views, making it an ideal environment for global endurance competitions.

Al Ghassani added that the implementation of this international championship in cooperation with the Middle East International Events Foundation, and with a fully Omani operational workforce, reflects the efficiency of national cadres and their ability to manage major sporting events in accordance with the highest international standards.

He noted that the championship achieves a tangible economic impact by attracting athletes, visitors, and media representatives from various countries, positively affecting the tourism sector and related industries. The accompanying international media coverage also contributes to highlighting Oman’s tourism offerings and enhancing its global visibility.

The championship follows the standard Ironman 70.3 distance of approximately 113 kilometers, divided into three stages: a 1.9-kilometer swim in the waters of the Gulf of Oman at Qurum Beach in Muscat, a 90-kilometer cycling race along coastal routes and scenic landscapes, and a 21.1-kilometer run (half marathon) concluding along beaches and specially prepared running tracks amid an enthusiastic spectator atmosphere.
