Veteran Egyptian Actor Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra Passes Away at 92

Cairo:  Veteran Egyptian actor Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra passed away today at the age of 92 after suffering from age-related health complications during recent weeks.

Egyptian Minister of Culture Jehan Zaki mourned the late actor in a statement, describing him as one of the prominent figures of Egyptian theatre whose artistic contributions enriched the cultural and artistic landscape.

She said that Abu Zahra was closely associated with the National Theatre, where he presented numerous productions that remain among the notable works of Egyptian theatre.

Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra was born in 1934 in Damietta Governorate and later moved to Cairo, where he developed his passion for acting through school theatre before joining the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts.

Throughout his career with the National Theatre, he participated in numerous stage productions, including “Al Qadiya,” “Al Mahrousa,” “Al Farafir,” “Bilad Barra,” “Hallaq Baghdad,” and “La’bat Al Sultan.”

He also appeared in hundreds of television productions, including “Al Wasiya,” “Al Zayni Barakat,” “Omar Ibn Abdul Aziz,” “Agent 1001,” and “Farah Layla.”

Among his most recognized television roles was the character Haj Ibrahim Sardina in the series “Lan A’eesh Fi Gelbab Abi” (“I Will Not Live in My Father’s Robe”), based on a story by writer Ihsan Abdel Quddous.

In cinema, Abu Zahra participated in films including “The Well of Deprivation,” “Back Streets,” “Land of Fear,” “Love of Girls,” “The Island,” and “Scarecrow.”

The late actor also paid particular attention to children’s productions through television programmes and animated voice acting works, including participation in Arabic dubbing projects for international Disney productions.
