Two Injured, Dozens of Fishing Boats Destroyed in Fire at Ecuador’s Manta Port
Quito: Two people were injured and dozens of fishing boats were destroyed following a fire that broke out at Manta Port, one of Ecuador’s most important fishing ports on the Pacific coast.
Ecuador’s Risk Management Agency said the blaze has been brought under control, noting that an investigation has been launched to determine its causes and circumstances.
According to preliminary reports, the fire engulfed at least 35 vessels moored at the port, most of them small and medium-sized fishing boats constructed from highly flammable materials.
The fire generated large flames and thick black smoke that spread across the port area before emergency teams succeeded in containing the blaze.
Authorities have not yet announced the extent of the material losses or the cause of the incident.
