The China Meteorological Administration warned that several regions, including Jiangxi, Anhui, Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong and Hainan, are facing a high risk of rain-related disasters such as landslides, flash floods and urban flooding.
Authorities launched emergency response operations in a number of affected areas.
Chinese media reported that six people died after a truck carrying 15 passengers fell into a river in Guangxi amid heavy rainfall.
Three other people were killed in flash floods that struck a low-lying village in Hubei province, while another death was reported in Hunan province.
