First Deputy Prime Minister, Defense Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousuf Al-Sabah gave orders to cancel the law requiring expats over the age of 60 who don’t have university degrees to pay exuberant fees to renew their residency visas.
This means that expats who fall under this category will no longer have to pay up to KD 900 per year to renew their residencies, which include a KD 250 fee and private health insurance. Instead, they will be treated equally and pay the normal charges paid by other labor categories, the same way as before the rule change was implemented a few years ago.
Sheikh Fahad was recently quoted as stating that the law was a “stain on Kuwait’s #humanrights record” and a disservice to expatriates who had spent a majority of their lives living and working in Kuwait.
